A PERUVIAN ARPILLERA

A PERUVIAN ARPILLERA.

Today I would like to show you this beautiful hand made ARPILLERA from PERU.  It is a textile picture which has been made from hundreds of pieces of re-cycled scraps of colourful pieces of fabric.  It is all hand sewn with individual pieces of fabric sewn on, and hand-stitched around.  Little shapes of Peruvian dolls have been cut out and hand sewn on,  making them three-dimentional, and also llamas and flowers have been made in the same way, truly making it a wonderful work of art!

The word "Arpillera" means "burlap" in Spanish.  It measures approximately 38.5 inches deep by 37.5" wide.

The making of Arpilleras (in Chile) became popular during the military dictatorship, (1973-1990), of Augusta Pinochet.  Today these Arpilleras are also made in Peru.

Here in the U.K. we are now in our fifth week of Lockdown (Isolation), re: Coronavirus (Covid 19).  Hopefully the world will be back to normal, and clear of the dreadful virus, soon.

Obviously I cannot go out to post packages now, but anyone wishing to purchase any of the dolls (except the ones which are marked as: "Sale Pending"), can be reserved for you until the time when we are all able to be out and about again.  THANK YOU for all your patience!
