(Back face)INFORMATION ABOUT THIS DOLL:
This information was given to me by the Salesman in the shop, from where I purchased the doll in Bulgaria in 2003.
The men dress in these outfits on January 1st. to scare away the "dark forces". The bells these dancers wear, are sheep bells and a real male dancer wears a total of 35 kilos of bells to dance with! Everything about the dance is based on the bells. The costume is made of sheepskin.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
STAY SAFE AND WELL!
Carole.
Happy New Year to you as well!
ReplyDeleteI have two questions, in response to your amazing blog Carole!
One is, how can I get in touch with Amma Jackson? I share a strong interest in Guatemalan textiles and dolls, and would enjoy communicating with her!
The other is where did you find the beautiful Bulgarian Festival Doll in your post - it is quite unusual and looks very well made. I would like to learn more about him and where to find another!
All the best, Mary
Thank you
