DOLLS FROM CONGO

Today I am adding some dolls from CONGO.  I am fascinated by their unusual hair-style!  Such beautiful dolls!
Every time I see dolls such as these lovely hand-made ones, I imagine a little group of local women lovingly working on them, and making them to sell.  (Aren't we lucky?)

As always, you can see more information, and photos of these dolls, on my website (www.worldcostumedolls.com).  Just put the Code Number into the search box on the Inventory page (on the HOME page, and they will come up).

I am also showing A COUPLE OF PHOTOS  (from one of my recent walks).
I am showing these, as I often get requests to see more of our beautiful views, here in Wales.
Thank you.

Although I am at last having just a little more time to work on my website and my blog, I still have LOADS of beautiful dolls to list, (but I need to live to the age of at least 110 years, to finish listing them!)

A DOLL FROM AZERBAIJAN

Today I am listing this hand made doll from AZERBAIJAN.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
I originally listed this post as a doll having been made by Elmira Abbasley, but even though the label states it is, this is NOT so! I have been in touch with the daughter of Elmira, who says the doll is a COPY made by a previous worker for Elmira, WHO HAS USED Elmira Abbasley's name. I have since removed the label, and stated that the doll is an Azerbaijan folklore doll. It just goes to show that even when there is a name tag on a doll, it is NOT always correct. I will photograph the doll again, without the label.

I have recently had a new computer and it has taken a little while to get used to it, but I have now found where everything is!  So now I will be able to add on more of my dolls.  So once again, thank you all for your patience.  I really appreciate it!

As always, more pictures, and more information about this doll can be seen on my website.  www.worldcostumedolls.com   Just put the Code No. in the search box on the Itinerary page on the website.  Code No:  (Asia - Azerbaijan - 002, 002A, 002B and 002C.

A DIORAMA

"MR I. REED - ("SECOND HAND BOOKS")"

I made this little Diorama a few years ago for "WORLD BOOKS DAY. "

I made the doll with Fimo modelling clay, and cut up lots of pieces of wood in various sizes, to make the books.  Next I painted three sides of the wood, either with gold, or white paint.  Some I covered with scrap pieces of thin leather, some with different coloured pieces of paper, and some with ready printed book covers, which were free with a Dolls House magazine.  A couple of the boxes I made with very thin wood and added strips of silver foil down each side.  The smaller ones I made with cardboard.  The open book which Mr Reed is holding is just two pieces of wood for which I bevelled one edge on the two pieces, and covered them in the usual way.

The chair was in my "spare furniture" box, and the low table was a kit which just presses together.  I made the market stall myself.

HAPPY ST. DAVID's DAY!

To all my friend's and followers.

For St. David's Day this year, I would like to show you my writer's cottage "Laugharne Cottage" and also my little room-box which I have called "Noswaith Practws" ("Evening Practice").  I made them a few years ago.  I hope you will enjoy them.

INFORMATION:

"LAUGHARNE COTTAGE"
I have called the doll "Thomas Dylan" (after the famous Welsh writer - "Dylan Thomas".  "Laugharne Cottage" is named after a little place in Wales (U.K), called Laugharne, which is where Dylan Thomas lived for some time, during the 1930's, and where he did a lot of his writing in the "old boathouse", which still stands today.  It has been kept just as he left it, with screwed-up bits of paper on the floor, etc.  (He was not a tidy person!).  I made the cottage out of a wooden wine box which was given to me by a grocer.

I used Fimo modelling clay to make the doll, and I made the table, tea-chests for the books, and all the books and tied-up sheets of paper with "his writing" on.  (I didn't make his chair).  I made all the books out of cut-up pieces of wood, and covered them all with soft leather and various pieces of patterned paper, and made lots of cardboard boxes to store some of the books and piles of papers in.  Because the box is obviously not very deep, I added false doors to give the illusion of "rooms behind".
The cottage has a bedroom upstairs, but I have not photographed it.

"NOSWAITH PRACTWS".  ("EVENING PRACTICE").
("Noswaith" should have an accent on one of the letters (or two?), but I am not able to add them using my computer).

I made the wooden room-box for this one also, and I made both dolls with Fimo modelling clay.  I made the piano, stool, mirror and small crystal lampshade, and also all the pictures and photos on the walls.  I made the music case by the side of the piano, the rounded steps in the right hand corner (underneath the gold vase of flowers), and also the ornaments on the mantle-piece.  I made the little piano stool which the teacher is sitting on, by using a little chess piece from a Charity Shop, and covering the top with fabric.
I bought the fireplace, but made the chrome "bar" which fits in-front of the fire, out of a cheap, old silver-coloured bangle from a Charity Shop.
The carpet and the harp were both bought.
I made both dolls and dressed them.  The young girl is wearing a traditional Welsh costume, for which I used genuine Welsh flannel.
