The 1st. March is the day on which Wales celebrates St. David's Day - (the Patron Saint of Wales), so I thought I would do an all-Welsh theme for this Blog.

I have put a new page on the Blog which is called "The Welsh Costume".  To view this page, please click on "The Welsh Costume" at the top, right hand corner of the Home page on the Blog.

The picture below shows "Mam's Craft Cupboard", which is a Welsh Craft Shop.  I made the items in it in 2000.  For more information and pictures about the Craft Shop (and "Noswaith Practis", above), please see the website.

SHALLOWPOOL DOLLS (and my visit to ST. FAGANS, S.Wales)

On this Blog I am showing you just a very small part of St. Fagans Museum, South Wales, and also TWO SHALLOWPOOL DOLLS.
ST. FAGANS MUSEUM
(South Wales)
I have recently visited St. Fagans Museum in South Wales.  I found it so interesting that I thought I would share it with you.  At St. Fagans there are over fourty original buildings from various historical periods in Wales that have been re-erected at St. Fagans.  You can find all the information and lots more pictures on their website at:   www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/stfagans
For more information about the SHALLOWPOOL DOLLS please see my website.

St. Fagans open-air museum is set in 100 acres of parkland in the grounds of St. Fagans Castle, South Wales.
The first picture shows a farmhouse which was originally built C.1470, and was called Cilewent.  It was originally situated in Cwmteuddwr, Rhayader, Powys, in Mid Wales.  The original walls were rebuilt in stone in 1734.  It is called a "long house" with cattle living at one end and humans at the other end.  All that is left of the original house are the two cruck trusses in the cow house and the timber-framed partition between the cowhouse and the dwelling.  This type of house was once common in mid and south Wales.  The farmhouse was dismantled in 1955 and re-erected at St. Fagans in 1959.  The furniture in the house is C.1750.

ST. TEILO'S CHURCH
This church was originally situated in Llandeilo, Tal-y-bont, near Pontardulais in South Wales.  It was built in the 13th. century.  It ceased to be used in 1970, and due to the remoteness, it became a target for vandals and thieves so it was dismantled in 1985.  Re-building was started at St. Fagans in 1997 and finished in 2007.  After extensive research the screens in the church are all carved by hand.

OOPS!  On my last Blog I showed you the inside of my Irish cottage, which I said wasn't on my website.  I must have had a "senior moment" then because it IS on my website, so apologies for that!  This time I will show you the kitchen in my 1940's house which I designed and made myself.  That is DEFINATELY not on my website!

WYNFORD
(the kitchen in one of my dolls houses)
I designed and made this dolls house in the 1930's style but made the furniture in the 1940's style, based on furniture which was in my own home during the 1940's.  (I made the house in 1990).
I have made all the furniture including the gas cooker and the sink, and also the geyser over the sink.  I grooved the floor to simulate quarry tiles.
The only things I didn't make in this house are the dishes and pots and pans.
I called the house "WYNFORD" after the late Wynford Vaughan Thomas, a well known war correspondent and raconteur.
I hope you will like it.  Carole.

MY THATCHED IRISH COTTAGE.
I made the cottage and also all the furniture myself, except the chair in the bedroom.  I also made the potato sack and box of vegetables etc., and of coarse, Jim McSweeney.
The ladder in the parlour was made by my late husband, and he also made the little tilly lamp (on the floor, on the left hand side of the bedroom).  He made it all from scrap bits and pieces which were in the garage.
